TALK AUDIO - BlackAir II 12" Review

I was offered the chance to try one of these subs in my system and decided to take up the offer. My system as tested consists of a Sony cdx mp30 headunit, 4gauge power cables all round, a Genesis Profile Sub amp and standard speakers in a 1996 ford escort. No sound deadening as of yet.» read more

Out of the box the sub certainly looks the part, as others have commented, this sub certainly does not appear to be a £100 sub. The last sub I owned (a maystar) cost me around the same and the looks and build quality were appalling in comparison.» read more

MAXPOWER: Blackair 12 - Addicted to Bass

Looking for a ´Class A´ hit a of bass? We feed your addiction with 14 of the best 12in subs to give you the ultimate head rush..

You've slammed in your first install. But there's something you're still craving big bass. You want the kinda bass that will get you noticed the minute you roll into town, but you don't wanna spend so much cash you can't afford cruising fuel.

For under £150 you can get some amazing 12's that'll feed your addiction for gut-rumbling beats. Weather you like to mash it up to dirty rolling Drum'n' Bass beats or if pounding hard house tunes get you high, a monster 12 will have you mainlining on killer low frequencies..

ON TEST:
Vibe Black Air, Fusion FEW12, Kicker Comp12, Kenwood KFC-W3009, Precision Power PC 124, Pioneer TWS-305C, Alpine SWS 1241, Alphasonik, JVC CS-LD3300, Magnat, Sony XS-L121 P5, Mac Audio, Blaupunkt TSW1200, Audiobahn.

HOW WE TESTED
Hookin up each sub to our test amp (two-channel stereo dealing out 300W RMS) we fired each sub into a ported 1.5cu/ft box. We could've used a sealed box as they give tighter bass, but we wanted a real low end, window-shaking bass.

We used Pioneer's DEH-P3630MP CD Tuner to produce the tunes and we dropped in three test tracks to find out which was the best sub. The first test track was Mr Oizo's Flat Beat (from the Flat Eric Levi's ad). Its got ´drown-everything-in-the-car-park' bass guaranteed to get sub cones moving some serious air or dying on their feet. The second track was Ferry Corsten's Rock Your Body Rock, a pounding , charty tune for snappy bass attack. The final track was a bass test disk, our SPL track (Sound Pressure Level) to see how loud each sub would go before distortion. We recorded the SPL figure in decibels and scored them accordingly.

The winning sub was the one that but produced the best quality bass. The Blackair 12 sub overall won the GOLD award and came top of the range

REVS: VIBE Space 12 - Savage Woofers

Snarling 12in subs needn't cost a bomb. Revs sorts the dogs from the hot bitches.

It's a do eat dog world out there: If you're driving around like a pussy with yapping bass, you'll never get to sniff the ass pf a glossy coated bitch. So we've put the 12 bargain subwoofers through tier paces to fin d out which are the pit bulls and which are the poodles. Can a pedigree sub really be yours for less than £200? Read on to find out what made us growl like Staffies and what made us run off with our tails between our legs. G'rrrrrrrrr

VITAL STATS: 600W RMS, Dual 4 ohm voice coils.
PRICE: £199.99
VOLUME: 4.5/5
QUALITY: 5/5
OVERALL: 4.75/5
Rev's Reckons: This sub looks superb and certainly wins the prize for the craziest packing because it comes in a drum case. The dual voice coil provided big sounds, but what really struck us was the purity of the sound reproduction the bass actually sounded like it was being produced by a drum. Yet despite this clarity and quality, the SPACE 12 still snarled like a Rottweiller that had been booted in the knackers when it really counted. Often at this price the trade off is poor sound reproduction in favor of thumping, ballsy bass. But, overall the VIBE SPACE 12 has the grunt of a 15 inch sub combined with the control of a 10 inch. Arguably the perfect mix. We have a winner.
